From Mountains to Sea…this 1175 mile hike spans the entire state of NC, beginning at Clingmans Dome in the Great Smokey Mountains and culminates here in the Outer Banks, at Jockeys Ridge.
The ring, cut and pierced to mirror the state of NC, includes all of the trail, meandering across the mountains, plains, marshes and ends with a passing of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse through to the inner and outer banks of our coastal regions. Segments 11a-16a are an alternate paddle route taking you across natural waterways for a breath of salty air, and have been highlighted with a dotted line.
The back of the ring is inscribed with Mountains to Sea Trail and the 1,175 mile marker.
Lastly, a rose gold Made in NC emblem is tucked away to remind one of their journey.
This piece was submitted to Our State Magazine, a publication here in NC that features artists and craftspeople from across the state, as well as highlights of unique stops in this beautiful state. It won Honorable Mention in the Style Category.
I hope I captured something special that is a grass roots effort of volunteers, trail angels and hikers who love and embrace the outdoors, from mountains to seaside.
